This presentation will address a common problem encountered by many organizations whose business involves the development and deployment of custom, proprietary software in a datacenter, and how these applications are to be discovered and represented in the CMDB. The presentation will focus on using ServiceNow's Discovery feature used to detect proprietary software, utilizing both ServiceNow's application discovery mechanism and custom application "fingerprinting" methodology. You'll learn about the architectural challenges faced in fingerprinting applications, and you'll see the systems used for enabling fingerprinting applications, how they are entered into the CMDB via Discovery, how software assets are tracked over their lifetime, and how they are used by the organizations who need them.
